“We’re writing songs that aren’t explicitly based around the church experience so many of us are familiar with, we want music that is congruent with our worldview and our faith, but doesn’t require us to give up risk, creativity, and beauty.”
Realizing that often there is a gap between creativity and songs of faith that resonate with believers, Great Awakening has set out to fill just that.
Zach Janicello and Cole Johnson originally formed the duo that is Great Awakening in 2008 as an outlet for worship music, with the venture eventually stretching the pair to step outside the boundaries of mainstream Christian music. Great Awakening is on a journey to create art about God, life, pain and faith.
The pair recently picked back up writing and releasing new songs together in early2014, to start the next chapter their previous albums “Songs and Secret” and “Cities,” both recorded and produced by Elijah Moseley and released through Come&Live!
“Margins” and “Restitution,” the band’s two latest singles, showcase the duo’s newly refined indie-pop sound after taking a nearly three-year break to finish college, marry, and mature in their worldview and musical sound.
